HISTORY:
- Multiple universes exist but the only entities capable of moving between them are immensely old existences, elder 'gods'
- To occupy themselves/as their purpose, they cause universes to intersect
- They decide to start on earth as we knew it by introducing alien invaders
2001
- Hostile aliens hit earth. The aliens start around 3-4 feet large with only slightly above-average physical strength
- The world evolves around responding to alien attacks from space
- Mecha have been built and developed so pilots handle alien attacks in conjunction with military support
- Because aliens have grown in size but still have only physical power, almost all are easily dealt with
- Mecha pilots are commercialized presences, almost celebrities
- Technology and lifestyles have adapted to evolution of aliens, with protective shields over densely populated areas and people becoming used to updates in the news
- The majority of children take a piloting aptitude test when they turn 16 to test reaction speed, problem-solving, and mental compatibility with the neural network that powers mecha
2011
- He Ming is born in the middle of the time period
- Grows up sheltered and with kind but slightly distant parents
- Passes the aptitude test at 16 and begins training for the profitable occupation of piloting
- Matched with the neural network/mecha created by Dr. Jasvinder Veergandham
- Begins piloting at 18 in China
(A much more detailed background and history up until his off-planet mission is available here in prose form.)
2032
- He Ming is an established public figure with multiple successful missions, settled into piloting + college at 21
- Well-known and makes public appearances, has brand deals
- Entities have increased rate of alien attack and growth; aliens now show signs of intelligence and learning ability
- He Ming and two other pilots are deployed into exosphere to do reconnaissance (all prior searches have proved inconclusive)
- While in lower earth orbit he loses contact with base on earth
- The outside entities make contact with him and express their interest by showing him what they can see
- He Ming is chosen as a vessel and a way for the entities to witness events on earth
- Gifted with a small portion of the entities' power and shown the true size of the multiverse, He Ming loses much of his morality (but none of his memories or personality)
- When he lands on earth again he returns to daily life with the additional goal of learning how humans can adapt to more intelligent aliens while entities watch passively through his eyes
- Starts having visual and auditory premonitions. They kind of suck.
PAST GAME MEMORIES: None.
PERSONALITY:
Charismatic, cheerful, and possessing an uncanny ability to make whoever he's talking to feel like the sole object of his attention, He Ming seems made for television. He's respectful to his elders, doesn't brag, and is basically a nice person, if a little scatterbrained. He has a simple confidence and an aura of self-assurance that makes people trust him. He likes getting to know people and trying all kinds of new experiences. And while these traits are genuine, there are many other parts of his personality not shown in his public appearances.
To his closer friends, He Ming's popularity can only be attributed to black magic. While not malicious, he is oblivious, pleasure-focused, and can be cruel without meaning to when he doesn't have a general script to follow. He doesn't think plans through. He doesn't worry about greater consequences or what is truly 'right' and 'wrong'. He often says what he thinks without bothering to censor himself, and what's considered "refreshing" on television becomes being blunt to the point of rudeness in real life. In that vein, he doesn't say things with the intention of hurting people, though things sometimes turn out that way. Fortunately (or unfortunately, in the long run), he also isn't the sort to share his opinion without prompting or reason, or else he'd probably get told off more often.
Prior to his meeting with the outside entities, he does his best to do good, just without going out of his way to help people. He had (and still has) a strong sense of duty to his family and to 'good'—he never once considered turning down the position of pilot once he passed the test. Now knowing the expansiveness of the multiverse, He Ming believes that the entities know what is ultimately best for all. His morality has largely disappeared because he follows the pattern of thought that the entities will decide the course of events by controlling the aliens. Believing in the entities' chosen path is par for the course for He Ming, in that he had no ambition even before being chosen by them. As a high schooler he preferred hanging out with friends and partying to working or furthering his career goals. He didn't know what he was going to major in, and passing the piloting aptitude test essentially made the choice for him.
Now, though he still has a sense of duty, it's to the outside entities and not to humanity. He Ming is happy as who he is, a young man with too much power and supernatural, impossible entities watching over him. After being influenced by the entities, He Ming has become even more focused on pleasure and fun. He'll do as he's instructed by humans, since he's still enjoying his work, but when he's called upon by higher powers he'll listen, because in his mind they're now the ones who really know what it is to live life.
POWERS/ABILITIES:
- 'Charisma': He Ming is naturally charming. After his meeting with the outside entities he develops an additional level of it, like a glamour in magical terms, that makes him more convincing and more trustworthy, especially to those already inclined to listen to him. At full strength it's capable of coaxing someone resistant into agreeing.
- 'Knowing': The influence of the entities allows him to read people through many types of cues. He can't read people's thoughts, but he can better see through lies, understand what people want, and make 'guesses' about people that are very accurate.
- Strength/speed: He Ming is somewhat stronger and faster than a normal human. Nowhere near superhuman, but noticeably capable of lifting more than he should and being faster than expected.
- A form of immortality: He Ming no longer ages, and he will survive the majority of physical damage. He's no longer vulnerable to infection or viruses. However, he can't heal or recover any better than a normal human, so he could be walking around with fatal injuries that won't heal on their own.
Outside of these supernatural abilities, He Ming specializes in mecha piloting and has associated experience in combat (firearms accuracy, weapons handling, engaging in conflict). He can also... play the piano.
APPEARANCE:
~5'8", slim, lightly muscled, artificially but very professionally bleached blonde. brown eyes.
CURRENT TIMES AU.
instead of near future with aliens, the present, but with more supernatural... stuff.
- visions accompanied by headaches
- small machinations, large orbits
- i can see clearly now the raaain is gone
- basically a modern-day seer, tragic death and all
